1942 Punked [spiro]

From the 1942 Website
In response to the #1 request from the community, DICE & EA are proud to announce the inclusion of anti-cheat measures in the next patch for Battlefield 1942. The Battlefield team is committed to providing an exploit-free gaming environment for members of our community. Our goal is to have measures in place which address both current and future cheats. As such, after researching existing anti-cheat programs, we've determined that Punkbuster™ suits our purposes perfectly. We'll keep everyone updated as to our progress. For now, we have successfully integrated Punkbuster into the upcoming 1.6 patch and we're in the process of testing it.
About time if you ask me.

  1. Hmm, back in the Half-Life days PB was really annoying to run. Is it any different now?

  2. usually the latest version of PB comes with the latest patch of the game. You may have to turn it on in game, but that should be it.

  3. This is good news. Very good news. The only slightly annoying thing about PB is that it can stop you running nocd patches, not such a big deal though when you can just slap in your original cd & make an alchohol image.

  4. Are you kidding me? PB was adopted by the ID powered games (Q3/RTCW/ET) a year or so ago now and without question, it's been one of the biggest problems with playing online.
The problems range from being unable to get it to work (although that's usually a user problem) to not being able to get it to update to simply what is known as 'pb lag' which can last for several minutes when you first join a server. I know I've had instances of pb lag which have lasted over 10 minutes. Your fps will die a death, your connection becomes choppy and your ping increases.
It's always great when they release updates (you're automatically patched, sometimes, when it works) during the middle of a game too.
PB is evil. Don't welcome it.

  5. Apart from getting the latest versions I've not had any problems with it. Thats not saying there aren't any, PB lag just sounds like another excuse for lack of skills

  6. Latest patches for Raven Shield (v1.40 and 1.41 iirc) has had PB built in. A checkbox in the options enable PB and that's it. Does prevent from running a nocd patch, but a image file mounted via DaemonTools or FantomCD solves that. Server admins can choose to run it or not, and I must say I've not had any problems with it.

  7. I suppose when it comes to games infested by cheaters, it's by far and away the lesser of two evils.

  8. I don't mind losing a game as long as I've been beaten fairly by a player with skills. To lose to some cheating lama who thinks wall hack is part of the game.....
I still can't understand the mentality behind cheating online. Its not as if you are proving you are a better player, or even earning others respect. You are purely pissing others off and ruining a game.
If PB can sort this for me then fantastic, even if there is a slight drop in performance.

  9. I've had no problems running RS 1.4/1.41 with a nocd and pb on even when joining pb enabled servers, is cheating widespread in 1942/DC then ?

  10. Pissing people off is a whole teenage genre of pastime though isn't it. I'll echo Rock's question here too - since wallhacks obviously arse all use in 1942, presumably that only leaves aimbots or something?

  11. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying the pb lag is worse than cheating, far from it. I just wasn't aware there was a great deal going on. If there is, then I agree it's worth the hassle.
PB lag is pretty real, but it does go away after a few minutes. Just means for proper league games you make sure you join the server in plenty of time so it's done with before you play

  12. the main hack is Aimbot. but there are also wallhacks, not so hot for killing but locating. Distance hacks giving you the ability to kill from one side of the map to the other. Speed hack, increasing the rate of fire and vehical speed. I'm sure there are others

  13. Erp, well in that case, bring on PB

  14. Can't believe cunts sits down to code this shit. What utter fucking arseholes.

  15. Whats more annoying the wankers that code it, or the wankers that just download it and use it ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. You remove the former, you don't have any of the latter; just a ton of shit players to kill a lot.

  17. why in fucks name dont they include this shit in the game to begin with? the game already checks the antipiracy. why do they push this annoying 3rd party shit, its really annoying... not that i have even suspected a cheater in -42 for months...

  18. I'm with you on that. I can't say that I've been 100% Convinced that someone is cheating in a long time now. But I do tend to play on the EA and Jolt servers only1942 1.6 Patch is due out in Janurary. Here's a short-list of some of the features you can look forward to:
