What u watchin' ? [brit]

TV. A billion channels, and not a right lot worth watching...
What series or programmes do you watch regularly that you reckon are worth the time? For me, it's Navy NCIS (Ch. 289 Sky), Have I Got News For You (Ch. 109 Sky) and Las Vegas (Ch. 106 Sky).
3 things - and I pay some £38 a month for my SKY sub - hardly seems worth it eh?
So come on, let me into the secrets of what else is worth a watch...

  1. Never saw the point of repeats of a news show....
I've got me sky+ picking up corrie (natch), Bo Selecter, later with Jools, Jonathan Ross, plus a bunch of stuff that's one offs and whatnot. I tend to run through the 'don't miss' pages in the sunday rags and just load sky+ up for the week. That way I can just forget about what time anythings on.

  2. Only really watch the odd film, the odd comedy (Will & Grace / Coupling etc.) and sport when it's on. Would like to see a return for Spooks soon and Teachers. Don't have the freeview/satellite rubbish.

  3. Thats *exactly* why I don't have sky. The only real reason to have it is sport, mostly football, which of course sucks piss...

  4. Sad I know, but I've become addicted to one of those aspirational DIY 'do up your house and sell it for a fortune' shows, called Put Your Money Where Your House Is. No obvious help to me, since I have neither the time nor the funds to do my place up. That and the footy (obviously) have been my viewing habits for the last month or so. None of which is on Sky of course. So I really am wasting my money at the mo..

  5. Nothing. Literally - I've finally got rid of our cable subscription, and we're now not paying for any television service, bar the normal license (which I don't object to since I read the BBC News website every day of the week, and I'd happily pay five quid a month for that alone). Anything that's actually genuinely worth watching I grab off torrents (I've followed a few things like that - the first two series of 24, much of Scrubs, almost all of Stargate SG-1); and I buy the DVDs of some things when they pitch up (Blue Planet, Family Guy and 24 are good examples).
Beyond that... I just amn't interested in having TV beamed into my house. I despise my own tendancy to flop down in front of it and just watch whatever drivel is on, when I could be doing something more proactive. It's like using IRC during the working day; it's an easy alternative to actually doing something positive, and it's absolutely amazing how much your work/life changes for the better when you ditch it....

  7. Barring the repeats of Phoenix Nights on C4, the only thing I'll be watching on telly is Tour de France 7-8 each night on ITV2. Then the Olympics wil be on, woot, BBC are launching some new channels to cater for the oddball sports that never get any coverage, like the clearly-a-paedo-small-bore-rifle-shooting.
Other than that, I'm happily munching through my online Blockbuster dvd rental list. I've gone for the £13.99 a month jobbie and have compiled a huge list of odd and foreign films that I've always wanted to see but never wanted to enough. Had some very pleasant surprises, Chopper, Pelle The Conquerer and Sympathy for Mr Vengence have stood out recently. Chopper, in particulally, because he looks exactly how I imagine Lurks to look!

  8. I'm actually... watching far far less than ever but paying for a full package on Sky. I've just realised how stupid it is when the fiver a year sub to digiguide came up and I refused to pay it. Erm, I think I should call Sky.
In essense though, the series I like to watch I download from the US when they come out so I can watch them when I like. Err, computer/net driven PVR I guess where the content is actually up to date.
If British television wasn't so shit then I'd watch more I guess.
Me thinks evil_homer has been tipped off about the Chopper thing too...

  9. LOL! You're joking, people have said it before? Superb, and after your confession about the yearly cat killing spree, it's beginning to all make sense. How's the commute from Tasmania to London?

  10. Most people who have seen the posters for that film think it is him, rather than just looking like him.
As far as tv watching, there's nothing on that I actually want to watch atm. Luckily, there are plenty of the series i do like out on dvd.

  11. When the chopper poster came out we all pissed ourselves laughing because it is lurks with only a bit of body hair and some serious 'taching to go. In an infamous walk to de_dickens one night we passed by it and errr pissed ourselves laughing. Lurk didn't laugh or react much.
I reckon he secretly liked it. Unless it's like his uncle and there's serious family shame....

  12. Realistically there are worse things that could happen to a man's pride than being compared to Eric Bana. Albeit distinctly in Chopper mode rather than Troy mode ;)

  13. I haven't seen Troy. But I'm detecting a shinj fancies lurk angle :)

  14. I'd kill you, fat man, but I don't think there's room under my patio for such a large body.

  15. I watch the West Wing on E4, and any form of Rugby on Sky Sports. Apart from that if Im in doubt I will watch whatever is on UK History or the History Channel!
But I think this blog has also seen the light, just cancelled movies and sports. I'll keep the massive chnnel package, and therefore West Wing and History shite! Also it should me said that I will turn on sports again as soon as the soccer season starts at the end of August :)
