Two games you should buy:
Call Of Duty: United Offensive : The expansion pack or Cod (duh). I;ve enjoyed the hour I've spent in single player far more than the 10 I put into Doom3 before trading it in. Looks tops. The multi player includes loads of additions by those Wolfenstein multi player wizards Gray Matter so you know it will be good. They have put a 3 new gametypes in, lots of new maps & weapons. Yes even a flamethrowar! I've heard it's bigger than the original game. Not verified this yet but it does come on two discs so there must be roughly as much content. One for Houmous, deffo.
Star Wars: Battlefront : Basically a Battlefield rip off, in the star wars universe. Probably won't appeal to the hard core DC player, cos they'll probably find holes in it that I won't even notice. For the Star Wars fan who likes a bit of team based combat & has played BF et al before, the force is strong in this one. Being Star Wars, the weapons sound a bit weedy, but once you get over that it's top fun. If you liked Jedi Knight & BF then it's one to get. The single player is a quite entertaining blast and quite literally feels like IMPERIAL WAR! Lots of fun crushing those scruffy rebels under the heel of my patent polished stormtrooper boot. As you may imagine the AI is as thick as pigshit with Ai tie fighter pilots having a prepensity to fly smack into large rocks. On line will of course be where the real action is although lacking punkbuster it may be riddled with cheat0rs. Time will tell, but I love it at least for the moment. You can take your imperial squad, storm a building and SHOOT EWOKS!. One for Pod.

Are you sure about Battlefront? It's been getting some very stinky reviews from people who are usually quite reliable.
ReplyDeletePsi Ops on XBOX, loving that the now.
ReplyDeleteCoD: UO rocks hard though, pretty hard to fault it.
I've not seen a decent StarWars spin off game in recent memory (for the PC at least). Hell, the last time I sat down and truly wh00ped at SW was with Xwing vs. Tie Fighter... now that was a game. I might even still have it someplace, time for a reinstall me thinks.
ReplyDeleteThe Jedi Knight thing was good, and the sequel.
ReplyDeleteNo, not entirely sure. Being carried along on a wave of StarWars fanboyism at the moment. The server browser absolutely stinks and ASE is yet to release a filter, so the best bet is gamespy arcade - yuk. I've heard tell of crap netcode as well which isn't that surprising, seeing how much effort is required even by fps engine gods iD & Epic on that part of the engine. WIll report back when I have a full belt of Ewok pelts and a necklace of JarJar teeth.
ReplyDeleteThe Ugly: The server browser is the worst. No filtering, ages to refresh. No numeric pings, just thickie friendly green/red bars. Often on joining a server from the internal browser you'll just get a dialog saying it's trying to connect (Busy) & counting seconds up. The player number for servers seem to be wrong sometimes. You'll join a 20/30 server only to be told it's full On joining a multi player game, it still shows the splash screens. If you take too long looking at the scoreboard at the end of a game, you can get booted from the server by someone taking your place and it filling up. The game lags incredibly for the first 30s on joining a server. Seems to settle down after that. The vehicles are way too powerful. Leads to base camping. That said. If you're a Star Wars fan, you may be able to forgive some of the above. Hope there's a patch soon.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, xfire seems to support it. Better than gamespy arena & quick too. It'll do till ASE puts support in.
ReplyDeleteI played BF over the weekend. You guys know how I usually go overboard for SW stuff. My opinion : I think its a poor game. The maps are too small, the restrictions are too big (the xwings can't even fly over some of the rocks) and above all it didn't 'feel' SW to me.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of other issues that I have with it too (like why do the thermal detonators glow red?) but those are the main ones.
ello, nice to see ya's again =)
ReplyDeleteOi oi! :]
ReplyDeleteFor the record and for the viewing public, a reminder that Demoncleaner is officially more skilled than [EED]Slim at Counter-strike.
Heh. Ph34r!
My dog is more skilled than Slim at Counter Strike. And she died in 1985.
ReplyDeleteASE support has been added to Battlefront. You can skip the crappy gamespy login by doing adding
ReplyDelete+name YourProfile +email GamespyLoginEmail +ppass GamespyLoginPassword
to the end of the command line in the setup for ASE
Look, just go and get United Offensive. It's very very good. They've even put tanks & flamethrowers in. It's by grey matter who did wolfenstein. We played that a bit & really enjoyed it. It's less than 20 quid on line. Hell, I bet it even works over the top of a norty copy of CoD as it uses a different CD key. (Dunno, I have a proper original)This is deffo a game I'd like to play with meh clannies (hug).Get a headset while you're at it too.
ReplyDeleteLook, you can get COD and CODUO as a double pack, only £25.
ReplyDeleteJeez Spiny, you didn't even balls up that hyperlink, what's going on?! BRING BACK TEH REAL SPINEY!!!!!11 :]
ReplyDeleteDetails of a forthcoming SWBF patch here. Looks like they're bringing the game browser up to baseline standard. The already released 1.01a patch seems to have fixed my issues joining servers too. May be worth a blast at AmLAN.I've seen two things in reviews about SWBF.#1 "It's like a pearl in sick" Very true on release. Some absolutely fantastic moments intermingled with wrist slashing frustration.#2. "It's the only game that feels like you're playing with Star Wars figures". heh. so true, not least due to the musical score.
