  2. It's a bit unfair I think. It's got no jetpack for a start, which makes a big difference to the flow of the fighting. It makes a bit more of the classes in that it adds skills that you need to earn xp to get, so its less cookie cutter. It's also got a lot more vehicles, each side has different vehicles too, and there's some other stuff like deployable vehicles as stations and energy gathering and stuff. It's also persistant, and it's an fps, and nothing has done that before. EVAH!!

  3. ? What, today, on the basis that some bloke from Tribes worked on it? I've honestly not had much interest in it and haven't followed it. My instant impression, that it's Tribes 3, is based purely on the look and feel of it and the guns. However there's a *lot* of stuff in it that I haven't seen and that was never in the Tribes games - because this is a persistant universe etc. Hopefully tonight we'll get shown the ropes a by some people with a clue and see what battles are actually like.
To be honest, if the is Tribes 3 without the gay jet pack shit and the disc launcher then it's a step in the right direction. :)

  6. I'm thinking that I'll pick up the specialisation to drive an APC. Our pings suck to the US so it's best not to think we can drive some uber fuxor scout thinggy and dog fight or whatever. Sadly you can't get yourself one of those big ass MAX suits and drive an APC as well, of course.

  7. Latency didn't really seem that bad. Yeah, I'm getting some nasty video lag when the firefight is REALLY excessively populated - but other than that, I would've hardly noticed that my ping was around 200. Certainly no ghosting characters, or warping - and I seemed to hit what I was shooting at.
I've also not had any issues blasting across the terrain in a fast buggy type affair - well, other than the fact that I can't steer for shit, and it seems to have an invisible tractor beam on it that makes you beeline for the nearest tree :D

  9. I've got to say, I don't see what the fuss is about. The longer I play, the more it looks and feels like tribes. Crappy guns, crappy sounds. Combat is exactly like Tribes, bleh. It just doesn't look or feel great in any way I've seen. Nothing has made me go wow, nothing has impressed me at all. I'm fully prepared to say I've not seen a fraction of the game and I'm sure there's lots to it I'm not seeing but ... I'd have expected to see something that doesn't suck by now, quite frankly. I got killed, I killed a few things. None of if felt solid and engaging.
And the latency shit, well it's jerk-o-rama of course. Driving vehicals seems fine but on-foot combat seems jerky, random and as a result completely unrewarding. I'll be giving it plenty more of a test of course but frankly so far I'm dubious about this being the second coming of gaming.

  10. Mmm, well I'll grab the beta then - for those that don't know, it's 1.33GB (god bless corporate bandy) and you'll need to stump up a fiver to get access to GSpy's Fileplanet service.
We shall see if it's worth the effort :)
